Scott Williams has produced the performance of the tournament so far with a thrilling 3-1 sets win over Ryan Joyce on his debut at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship.
Williams hit a 100 average, 10 180's, 56% on the doubles and 164 as a highest checkout compared to an incredible display from Joyce who averaged 103, hit seven 180's in defeat and now it will be Rob Cross for 'Shaggy' in a likely tie of the second round.
Williams hit a 180 to start the tie but Joyce held throw in the end. He hit another 180 with both average near 120 but missed a dart at 61 albeit returned for double four for 1-1.
‘Shaggy’ hit a fourth 180 and double eight for 2-1. The maximums kept coming with a fifth and pinned a 164 on the bull for the opening set.
It was a sixth 180 for Williams who pinned 68 for a hold to begin the second set. Joyce levelled up from there averaging 108 to Williams 107.
Joyce hit a fourth 180 and double 18 to break as he looked towards 1-1 in sets. It was afifth 180 for Joyce and a 94 checkout for the second set averaging 112.
Joyce hit a sixth 180 of the match and followed it up with a 67 checkout to lead. Joyce though missed three to break and Williams held on double eight. A 95 checkout saw Joyce go one away from 2-1.
Williams hit a 180 but Joyce had a shot at 48 for the set only to spurn a marker at double 16 and Williams pinned 79 on double 20 for the set. Joyce missed 122 on the bull and Williams got a shot at 72 to hold but spurned it and Joyce broke on double eight.
Williams broke back on double four and held on double 20 to go one away from the win which he sealed with an 85 checkout for an 11-darter.
