An average of 100+ isn't a strange occurrance in the PDC anymore but in the
World Matchplay with its long set format, it is.
This year, the World Matchplay will start its 28th edition and in the past 27 years in all, 35
averages over 105 have been hit.
Phil Taylor as expected dominates the top averages with 24 of a total of 35 averages his above 105 including the four highest.
This includes 'The Power' hitting an average of 114.99 points per turn in his first round match of the 2010 World Matchplay against Barrie Bates (10-6 win). In 1997 and 2002 Taylor averaged 113.43 and 112.17 respectively.
In the 2013 final against
Adrian Lewis, both got in on the act with 111.23 over 31 legs with Lewis himself hitting 105.92.
Lewis has a total of two entries on the list, as in 2014 he beat Andrew Gilding 10-0 thanks to an average of 110.51.
Michael van Gerwen (110.93, 105.85 and 105.58), Peter Wright (108.13), Gary Anderson (106.06, 105.68 and 105.17), Krzysztof Ratajski (107.53) and Glen Durrant (106.93) are the other names on the list.
