After emerging a comfortable 3-0 winner against South African qualifier Grant Sampson,
Kim Huybrechts has proclaimed it to have been the "easiest game in 11/12 years I've been on the World Championship."
Despite averaging just 83.37, Huybrechts victory was never really in doubt. The Belgian dropping just a single leg in the match. In an honest post-match interview, the Hurricane admitted he never really felt pushed. "All respect to Grant Sampson but I think this was my easiest game in 11/12 years I've been on the World Championship."
With Sampson being unknown to most darts fans prior to his shock victory over Keane Barry in the 1st round it's perhaps unsurprising that Huybrechts didn't have a lot of knowledge about his opponent. "Didn't know much about him (Sampson)," Huybrechts said. "But it wasn't good and that influenced my game as well," he admitted.
The reigning champion, Peter Wright, who eased to a comfortable win over Mickey Mansell on opening night, now lies in wait for Huybrechts in round 3. Despite losing in the 3rd round in each of the last two World Championships, the Belgian is looking forward to testing himself against tougher opposition. "That's what I do, I put the big players under pressure and that's exactly what I'm going to do in the next game." he says. "Watch the next game it's going to be good!"
