One of the highlights of the
World Cup of Darts was France's strong results. That country was competing in the Nations tournament for the first time since 2014.
The duo of
Thibault Tricole and Jacques Labre managed to make it all the way to the quarter-finals. In the group stage, they stunned against Northern Ireland (4-1), then made it to the knockout stage via an easy 4-0 win over Ukraine.
The adventure did not end there for the French. Indeed, Tricole and Labre also managed to beat South Africa 8-4 before their tournament came to a brutal end in the quarter-finals, as Tricole and Labre lost 8-0 to Scots Peter Wright and Gary Anderson.
Nevertheless, Tricole looked back on a very successful tournament. "I want to thank the PDC for inviting us, France, to this edition of the World Cup. It was the first time in my life that I played in front of so many spectators. In an incredible atmosphere. It was crazy! And stressful..." Tricole wrote on Twitter.
"The game format was perfect for a small nation like ours. We could create surprise more easily despite the very heavy score of the last match against two legends, who I still admired only a year ago on TV. We finally cracked up. I note the run that lasted four days. Our level must certainly increase. But we learn and progress step by step. We have met high class players. Thank you Jacques for these emotions shared together. A great step forward for darts in France. We will come back stronger."
