Dimitri van den Bergh eased past Krzysztof Ratajski in his opener at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship and discussed his delight at getting through a difficult tie and just getting the win was the main thing.
The first through to the latter stages, he averaged 92 with three 180's and 52% on the doubles in a 4-1 sets win.
"I'm very honored. My personal feeling was that it wasn't easy but I've done it, I've done the job and that's the main thing," said Van den Bergh post match.
"It doesn't matter who you play, the first set is always going to be nervy. 15 darts to hold throw should be enough. The first set that's not what was happening, I think I finished a few legs in six throws. When you get this chance, you've got to take it."
He also opened up on his mindset surrounding the tournament and how he takes it game by game and step by step.
"I've got to the Quarter-Finals twice in this tournament so you know you can go deep in tournaments like this. Take it step by step, I've always done it. I know from the past I can win tournaments when the best of the best are competing."
"This feeling is what I've got to work on and what I've got to believe in."
As well as thanking the Belgian and Dutch fans for travelling to see him and the constant support.
"I saw a lot of guys from Belgium and they are supporting me. I really want to say a massive thank you to everyone that came from Belgium even Holland, close friends of mine drove all the way up here to see me play. I want to play well just for them."
