Vincent van der Voort believes Michael van Gerwen will return to form and that it is a matter of time until the animal gets 'freed' once more.
Van der Voort who practices with Van Gerwen and is one of his best friends believes that when the losing continues, he will not rest on his laurels.
"If you asked me personally, I would like Michael (van Gerwen) to be at his best again. I mean he's a very good friend of mine so I hope he comes back and be better than before," said Van der Voort on the Darts Show.
"I think he will I mean it's a matter of time until the animal gets freed again in his heart, in his head and once he gets really annoyed with losing, he will live more like a professional."
On his injuries, Van der Voort said that it is hard when they continue but that when he gets there it is worth it.
"It's starting to get there. You do a lot of treatment on your back and a lot of physio. People hurting you with massages and you don't get any results. It's difficult to continue but once the results kick in, it's easier to handle."
On his underarm controversy which blighted him during the World Matchplay, he once again apologised for the debacle: "I let myself down and that is because of something I didn't hear during the match. I totally misunderstood the referee and that got in my head."
"Do I think there are more titles on the way? I think I can but I have to continue to work as hard as I did during lockdown. Everyday I was out, getting my stamina, everyday I was practicing. I have to keep that up."
