Van der Voort frustrated after opening round defeat at World Matchplay: "If I had played a bit more normal, I would have won"

Vincent van der Voort was left frustrated as he lost out in the opening round of the World Matchplay to Dave Chisnall 10-8.

Van der Voort got better as the match wore on but his poor start seemed to affect him in the end despite opportunities also being spurned at the end of the match.

"It's so very hot here. I didn't get into it well, I had to work very hard to get to a reasonable level. It's very hard to play here. It's been a while since I played in this heat and I didn't handle it well'', Van der Voort looked back afterwards in conversation with RTL 7.

The former UK Open finalist also realized that the match could have turned out differently if he had used his doubles better. “Those misses when I was on 36… Then I could have hurt him, but I didn't. This defeat hurts. If I had played a bit more normal, I would have won. But that's of no use to me now. Process it and look ahead again.”
