Van der Voort on match-fixing research: “I can imagine that some players will be tempted”

Match-fixing was on the agenda this past week in the darting world with research carried out by NOS saying that at least six

Dutch darting stars have been asked to influence the result of the match.

Those players included Maik Kuivenhoven and Niels Zonneveld who declined it and reported the issue.

Vincent Van der Voort gave his reaction and said while its worrying, he wasn’t shocked to find out about the situation.

"If six players reported it that is worrying, '' says the 45-year-old said to NU.nl. "It is good that these players have reported it, because it has to be sorted as soon as possible."

Van der Voort realizes that the sport has a considerable appeal on the gambling market. This is because many different things can be bet on, such as the number of 180s and the highest finish.

“There are still a lot of players who are not high on the world ranking. If they then receive an offer to earn a lot of money in one go, I can imagine that some players will be tempted,” continued Van der Voort.

He indicated though that he himself would never be tempted to consciously lose a match.

'If they call in, I save them the trouble. That's really never going to happen. I can't even lose on purpose. The less I try, the more they go in. ''
