Van Gerwen believes World Matchplay could still be played: “The PDC will try to continue, with or without an audience”

Michael van Gerwen like all other players doesn’t have any idea when he will play again due to Coronavirus restrictions being lifted at different times in different countries.

The World Matchplay is the next big tournament on the horizon and for Van Gerwen, he reckons it could still be played behind closed doors.

"I understand that the PDC will try to continue the World Matchplay in July. With or without an audience, I don't know. And I have not yet received official confirmation of it,” said the World Number One to AD.

The three-time world champion naturally hopes that he can try to claim a third World Matchplay title this year.

“Then at least I have something on the horizon, something to work towards. Because I will still be practicing in these months, but without a concrete goal it is still more difficult to motivate myself. ''
