Van Gerwen edges Clayton in last leg decider and will meet Chisnall in quarter-finals of Hungarian Darts Trophy

Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall are the final two quarterfinalists at the Hungarian Darts Trophy. They meet Sunday night in the last eight of the Euro Tour tournament in Budapest.

Van Gerwen had to work hard to deal with Jonny Clayton. The player from Vlijmen started the match well and via a 13-darter, 132 finish, 11-darter and a 14-darter to take a 4-2 lead. Van Gerwen missed three chances to make it 5-2 and was broken back by Clayton via double 20. The Ferret then levelled the score with a 14-darter.

Moreover, the Welshman took over the lead with a 12-darter for 5-4 and was allowed to throw for the match in the tenth leg. After nine arrows Clayton was on 166, but in the next two innings he failed to get match darts. Van Gerwen took advantage and forced a deciding leg with a 15-darter. The last leg was then a winner for the Dutchman.

In the final match of the afternoon, Dave Chisnall had little to fear from Rowby-John Rodriguez, who threw only 83 average. Chisnall countered with a 98 per turn moyenne and won the battle easily 6-1.
