Michael van Gerwen will take on Chris Dobey on Sunday evening in the last quarter-final of the PDC
World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace in London.
The 33-year-old Dutchman should have already faced Dobey at the World Darts Championship last year, but Van Gerwen was forced to withdraw before the match due to a corona infection.
Van Gerwen had forgotten that Dobey was his opponent at that time. ''I didn't know that at all. He was lucky then, this year will be a bit less for him. I'm going to try to hurt him a lot. I'm looking forward to it.''
Van Gerwen is looking forward to taking on the 32-year-old Englishman and hopes Dutch viewers will switch on en masse to follow his match.
''On New Year's Day is of course a fantastic day to play. Most people in the Netherlands are sitting at home and they still want to watch something. Whether I will entertain them? I hope so.''
