Van Gerwen on Durrant's struggles following Premier League win: "I feel sorry for the guy, to be in this situation it's tough"

Michael van Gerwen was under-par during the return of the Premier League Darts but still came through in a professional job over a struggling Glen Durrant.

Van Gerwen who is now joint top of the Premier League table spoke afterwards including about switching darts admitting that he did so three times but for the same sets of darts.

"I always say it's the best medicine to have the two points in the pocket but overall it was a poor performance from both of us but there can only be one winner," said Van Gerwen post match.

"I switched three times but it's exactly the same darts, the other ones I picked up just before the UK Open but I just wanted to get my head out of the bad zone and I wanted to focus on something else. I was maybe trying too hard, I also know what situation Glen Durrant is in and that's not the best."

He also discussed Glen Durrant's darting demise and about what he said to the reigning champion afterwards who remains winless in this years' tournament.

"My first few words were don't worry, it will come back because I think I was him, I wouldn't really feel well at the moment. He's also not the most natural talent and he has to work hard to make sure it goes in and for him at the moment, I feel sorry for the guy. To be in this situation, it's tough."
