Michael van Gerwen dodged a Bullet as he sealed a 3-2 win over Stephen Bunting digging deep to reach the Quarter-Finals of the World Grand Prix as the five-time champion remains in the running.
"I definitely made it harder than it should have been especially first set I could have won so much easier but after that I think I was in control but then Stephen (Bunting) found an extra gear as well and you have to make sure you don't make too many mistakes. I'm glad I didn't, it was a good battle for everyone to watch and for me to play as well I have to be honest. To end the game like that with a 94-95 average I can only be proud of," said Van Gerwen post match.
"I feel confident and I know there's more in the tank but you still have to do it game by game. You can't make any mistakes anymore."
Playing Chris Dobey next, he jokingly responded to his comments about Van Gerwen still being the top player in darts and spoke about their personal relationship.
"He knows a lot about darts. We know each other quite well and we get on quite well. I always call him Bollywood, to play him is quite nice."
As well as about the ongoing mind games between Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price for the World Number One spot and gave his own message.
"Back of their mind, they know who the number one is going to be. I will always keep battling for it till I retire, I won't stop hunting them. They're probably already making excuses for later."
