Michael van Gerwen is through to the fifth round draw later this evening at the 2023
UK Open but had to produce a superb final leg in order to stop Dave Chisnall's comeback ending in a deciding leg.
Van Gerwen initially led 9-5 and was one away but Chisnall came back to make it 9-8 but in the end, the Dutchman found a way through with a 98 average, four 180's and 52.6% on the doubles.
Van Gerwen initially held a slender advantage but Chisnall missed the chance to break and go 4-3 up and MVG broke himself in the following leg before consolidating. But at the interval, Chisnall held to keep himself a break down at 6-4.
MVG on return from the break missed a dart to hold and shook his head as Chisnall snatched a break back to make it 6-5. But distracted by something around his ear, Chisnall missed a dart at double 20 from 79 to consolidate and Van Gerwen broke back immediately at 7-5 and consolidated to go two away at 8-5.
Chisnall missed two darts to hold and again he was punished as Van Gerwen hit a 72 checkout to make it 9-5.
But after match darts were missed, Chisnall took out 106 to stay alive at 9-6 and was throwing to only go two down albeit being now or never.
A 70 checkout saw it at 9-7. A superb 101 checkout saw Chisnall use two double two’s and he was throwing to make it a decider. But five perfect darts and a 165 to leave double four saw him take away any chance of that happening as he sealed the win.
Rob Cross though prevented Double Dutch delight, he saw off Raymond van Barneveld in a 10-9 victory over on Stage Two with a 99.2 average.
He hit a 13-darter in the decider in a match which initially saw Barney up 5-2 with a 114 checkout before Cross came back and turned the tables leading 6-5 before a nip and tuck game ensued from there sealed by 'Voltage'.
He is joined in the draw by Jose de Sousa, Luke Woodhouse, Adrian Lewis, William O'Connor, Mervyn King, Martin Schindler, Richie Burnett and Andrew Gilding with Lewis and Woodhouse both hitting 102 averages in victory.
