Danny van Trijp caused a huge sensation at the
World Darts Championship earlier this week by beating legend Steve Beaton 3-0 in sets.
The dart player from Etten-Leur told his boss in an interview that he would not return to work this week. A day later, Van Trijp received a message from his employer.
''He emailed me a day later to congratulate me,'' Van Trijp told the Brabants Dagblad. ''Then he immediately asked if I could go back to work next week. I said that it's up to Friday. If I win, I will stay in London, because I would have to play again right after Christmas. I haven't heard from him since. He must be busy looking for a replacement.''
Van Trijp also heard from Beaton, who showed himself a sportsmanlike loser afterwards. ''Said to me that I had played well and wished me luck for the next round.'' Afterwards, his family and friends wanted to take a picture with me. Then of course I'm not the fool, haha."
He received less pleasant reactions from people who had bet money on Beaton on bookmakers. ''Through all kinds of channels they know how to find me. A number of people also sent me a payment request. Apparently they had bet on Beaton and because of me they have now lost money. Pretty weird to get things like that,'' Van Trijp said.
