James Wade cruised past Martin Lukeman to open his
World Matchplay account in a 10-4 victory from 'The Machine' who showed his class at times but did his job ultimately against the debutant.
"There's no stage that makes me more nervous than this one. I was lucky, he didn't play well and I come out on the other side and I bashed him and that's the main thing," said Wade post match.
But with a second child which he revealed will be called Alfred due imminently, he said the Winter Gardens doesn't give him that feeling anymore.
"Not so much anymore. I want to win this more than anyone but I've got a wife at home that's due to drop. I'm trying here more than anyone. I believe that's a true reflection on what I'm trying to do.
He also discussed whether Arthur will watch him play and also dropped a retirement hint in the process.
"In my opinion a darts player that needs to let their child watch what they do is not right. My child was more interested in catching frogs, some dart players feel the need to add that to them because that's what they need to do but that's a no no."
"Everything's great at home and all this is just a little push past what I need to do to retire. With what the PDC have done to enable players like myself to do what we do, the working class boys never going to get an opportunity like we've had. It's quite a special time and place. It's not far off."
