James Wade has been one of the notable absences despite initially entering for the ProTour tournaments this week but the reasoning has now been established.
Wade was taken ill after winning his Quarter-Final at the European Darts Open and subsequently he was due to face Dimitri van den Bergh but withdrew allowing the Belgian through to the final where he lost to Michael van Gerwen.
Through a statement on his Facebook page (below), it reveals that Wade was taken to hospital and after tests to establish the cause of the symptoms including racing heart, high blood pressure, nausea and dizziness, he is currently recovering.
He has been detained by the hospital team for observation and as a result is not currently in a fit state to fly home which means he is almost certainly going to miss this week's Premier League Darts and subsequent European Tour this weekend.
James' wife Sammi has been unable to join her husband due to caring for their young son, Arthur and also having another child on the way but thanked the staff at the German hospital for their help.
"It was very worrying on Sunday night and into Monday and it is horrible to think of James there by himself when he has been so poorly," she said.
"Clearly we want him home as quickly as possible but the medical staff have been amazing with James and he is hugely grateful for the compassion and care that they have shown him - we are taking their advice on when it will be safe for him to return home."
"James is desperate to make sure that he doesn't let anyone down and is already talking about returning to competitive action for the people that have bought tickets.
"Whilst that is his nature, I am sure everyone would agree that him making a full recovery is the important thing and we will be taking it day by day but I know he will be itching to play as soon as physically possible."
