Whitlock started mental games against Van Duijvenbode in the hotel: 'He said the 110k winner's cheque was for him'

Dirk van Duijvenbode beat Simon Whitlock 4-1 in the Semi-Finals of the World Grand Prix, despite Whitlock tried to play mental games, even before the match.

"I was tremendously motivated the night before the match. When I was standing outside drinking a beer after my Quarter-Final win, I met Simon. He yelled at me that he had 110,000 pounds in his pocket (the prize for the winner of the tournament)'', Van Duijvenbode told RTL 7.

"Well, you shouldn't say such a thing to me", continues The Titan. "I was immediately extra motivated to beat him. I have not yet won those 110,000 pounds, but he certainly does not have them'', he laughed.

Also during the match Whitlock tried to play his Dutch opponent out of the game by slowing down the pace. Van Duijvenbode responded to this with a brilliant 180-score as the Dutchman showed he was not impressed by Whitlock's antics.
