Damon Heta begins his only chance this year to play in front of his home crowd in Australia on Friday. 'The Heat' counts at the
New South Wales Darts Masters as one of eight PDC stars to compete against eight local darters.
Heta has been going strong over the past 18 months, winning the World Cup of Darts along with compatriot
Simon Whitlock and advancing into the top-16 of the world rankings.
The Australian is happy to return home. ''It’s absolutely massive. I’m loving every minute of it. I’m just soaking all the time up with my friends and family at the moment," he told pdc.tv.
For several years Heta has been considered Australia's best darter, having slowly taken over this role from compatriot Whitlock. ''You could say I’ve taken the torch off Simon for a bit. He’s held it for a long while, so I want to do good things, I want to win titles and keep that momentum going."
The World Series tournament has been a fixture on the PDC calendar for several years. That has caused the level of Australian darters to rise. ''The PDC have been coming Down Under for ten years now, so players are getting the experience," Heta agreed. ''It’s time for us to push on now, because the standard is there.”
