Cairns on impact of becoming inaugural WDF Girls World Champion: 'I’m hoping to inspire loads more girls to come and play'

Eleanor Cairns continued her darting progression with a superb victory over Wibke Riemann to win the inaugural WDF Girls World Championship at Lakeside.

“It was amazing, I was so nervous going on. Won the first set so was relieved, still shaking. But I got my head screwed on, did what I had to do and it feels amazing,” she said to Tungsten Tales.

Having played in the JDC Super 16 final losing to Luke Littler, she has some big stage experience and it’s night and day in terms of a comparison.

“A little bit different yeah. To hear that crowd just gives you a boost. I definitely wanted to win the first set so I feel more relaxed.

“As the legs went on, it started to get more steady.

In becoming the inaugural champion, Cairns admitted the next hope is to inspire others.

“When people say that I say oh my god is that me? I’m hoping to inspire loads more girls to come and play.”
