Richard Veenstra smashed Luke Littler off the board with a 104 average which sealed the Lakeside average record and staked his claim for this year's title at the 2022 WDF World Championship.
"The only feeling you can have is good but every double went in, the scoring went good. 164 in the first set was a big one to break him, it was only 140, 100 every double went out and that's how you need to play," said Veenstra to Tungsten Tales.
He lived up to the pressure put on by facing a 15-year-old prodigy in Littler and said it's how he needed to play.
"There was some pressure on, everyone's holding up Luke Littler 15 years old can play, I was thinking keep calm and do your own thing. That's how it works today, the first game was nervous and I was feeling great today."
Taking over the average record from Raymond van Barneveld, he said it carries on a lineage of some of his achievements.
"That's nice to hear, he will text me I think. I was the Dutch Open winner after Van Barneveld and now I'm the highest average after Raymond van Barneveld. That's nice to hear. Nobody was speaking about Richard Veenstra right so keep them doing that and I'll keep playing darts."
