After a year's absence, the
World Masters are returning to the World Darts Federation (WDF) calendar. The federation announced this in a press release on Tuesday. The World Masters will be organized in Europe and will take place from Wednesday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 13. Further information on prize money and location will be communicated at a later date.
In 2022, the World Masters took place for the last time. In 'De Bonte Wever' in Assen, Wesley Plaisier in the men's event and Beau Greaves in the women's event secured themselves overall victory. In addition to the World Masters, another ranking tournament will be held the same week with the World Open.
"I've always known how vital the World Masters is to all of our Member Countries and the players but its importance hit home at last year's World Cup in Denmark with representatives of our Member Countries asking us to ensure we delivered in 2024," says WDF Secretary General Nick Rolls. "The entire WDF Commercial team and I have been working tirelessly to get the World Masters back on the calendar and to do it in the same logistically and financially sensible way as we have done with the World Championships at Lakeside. The setup we've got for 2024 is the first step to us achieving that goal."
"We know that everyone would like all of the details now and we'd love to share them, but there are good reasons for not being able to share at the moment," Rolls concludes. "Equally, we know how important it is for our Member Countries and of course all of our players to know that the World Masters is going ahead and the dates, so we've taken the opportunity to make this very positive announcement and we can't wait to share more information with everyone in a few weeks!"
