Phil Taylor saw off Darren Johnson in a 3-1 sets win to reach the Quarter-Finals of the World Seniors Darts Championship where he will face local hero, Richie Howson.
Prior to the match, Johnson spoke about playing Colin McGarry which was soon paid heed to and Taylor believes he buckled under that pressure.
"I thought when he was talking the talk, I think you're going to get the pressure on you a little bit. I knew from the very beginning you're under pressure. Then he hit some good scores and a lot of bad scores.
"I threw some lovely darts and they were all around the treble again, on the practice board they're going in. I think it's the lights, a little bit brighter and your eyesight's a bit different but it just didn't seem to click. Then all of a sudden at the right time, I hit the right score."
As ever, Taylor received a superb welcome and it is not one he takes for granted.
"I'm retired, I live a very quiet life. I watch Judge Judy in the day, I don't get there's only one Phil Taylor so it's lovely. If I was to die next week, I'd be dead appreciative."
Also asked about Johnson wearing the Priestley shirt, he had a simple response. "He wasn't as good as the fella that actually owned the shirt. Dennis was a lot better player than he was trust me."
