Phil Taylor will begin his World Seniors Darts Championship question on Friday evening when he takes on Colin McGarry - with many despite 'The Power' being bookies favourite backing 'The Chief' to upset the odds.
Playing in the World Seniors Darts Matchplay last year, McGarry showed his pedigree and reached the Quarter-Finals with Taylor reaching two out of three finals but not being at his dominant best which sees him in the eyes of many as the greatest of all time.
But it is his eyes that have been improved with laser eye surgery ahead of the tournament as well as adding a gym to his house in order to gain the competitive edge alongside the practice and dedication needed on the oche.
“I was disappointed with the way I played last year – Kevin Painter battered me in the second round, no excuses," he said to Daily Star.
“I made two finals in other tournaments, but it hasn't been good enough yet. I've got to take it more seriously and commit to the dedication you need to get back to the level required to win these tournaments.
“They may all be over 50, but you're coming up against good players in this competition. I play better when I put a bit of work in and my arm aches after practice.
"I've had a gym fitted at home and I'm doing a lot more work instead of sitting around watching daytime TV, which never won anybody a shilling.
“I don't think I could count it as a 17th world title if I win it – I suppose it would be like winning the Seniors Open golf championship. We'll call it 16 and a half, though.”
