Justin van Tergouw snaps up Lakeside checkout bonus

Newly crowned world youth champion Justin van Tergouw has received an extra bonus after a unique achievement at the Lakeside.

17-year-old van Tergouw became the first player to reach two BDO youth world finals. By beating Killian Heffernan 3-1, he became the first double champion in the youth event.
A stunning 132 checkout sealed the win, but the Dutch star's 170 checkout was the talk of Lakeside. In doing so, he became the first youth player to achieve the highest checkout at a BDO World Championship. His 'big fish' matched that of Darryl Fitton, who achieved the feat in the second round.
But it was revealed that van Tergouw would not receive a share of the £5,000 prize for the highest checkout. BDO rules dictated that only Men's and Women's competitors could take the pot. But, after some public pressure, the BDO have offered van Tergouw a £2,500 bonus. This was confirmed by the young Dutchman's mother on Facebook. The bonus is additional to the main prize, meaning Fitton will keep the £5,000 for himself.
