With the
BDO World Darts Championship not taking place this month due to the organisation’s demise, DartsNews looks back at classic moments and matches throughout January from the showpiece event.
Onto 1994 and the first year where the WDC (now PDC) were holding their own World Championship. Dennis Priestley went on to defeat Phil Taylor in the final and the rest was history.
Of the 32 players who took part as a result in the BDO edition, 17 were debutants with many never appearing on TV. Among them was eventual champion
John Part.
In the first round 7 out of 8 seeds were knocked out with only third seed Roland Scholten making it through only to be knocked out in the second round.
As a result, the Canadian saw off Ronnie Baxter, Paul Lim, Steve McCollum and Ronnie Sharp en route to the final. He then eased past George 6-0 in the final who had reached his first final in 14 years despite a broken back.
