In the second week of play at
Modus Super Series 5,
Darryl Pilgrim caused a sensation with a nine-darter and a record average.
In his group match against Scott Taylor, Pilgrim threw a nine darter when trailing 3-1. "I was hitting everything but I was still 3-1 down, I didn't know how this was happening," Pilgrim laughed.
"I've been threatening a nine darter all year, I've missed three darts at a double for it," he continues. "So glad I finally got it in. My first competitive nine darter."
More thrills
Later that day, Pilgrim caused even more of a sensation. In his 4-0 winning group match against Dennie Olde Kalter, he achieved a whopping 122.69 average, a record in the Modus Super Series. Only two players (Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright) have ever thrown a higher average in a TV match (or broadcast via live stream).
"Technically, averages don't mean anything but when you do throw something like that it means a lot more than just a normal win," he concludes. "That's some of the best darts that anyone's ever thrown! Higher than Taylor even."
