Rob Cross failed to win his first UK Open title last Sunday. The former world champion lost 11-5 to Nathan Aspinall in the final. More remarkable is that Cross lost during all of his UK Open participations to the eventual winner.

The Hastings ace made his UK Open debut in 2016. Cross, at that time still unknown for the general public, went out after losing to Michael van Gerwen in the fourth round. The Dutchman claimed the title after defeating Peter Wright in the final. One later later Wright won the title in Minehead. 'Snakebite' beat Rob Cross en route to the final, as the Scotsman and 'Voltage' met in the last sixteen. In 2018 it was Gary Anderson who stopped the current world number two en route to glory at the UK Open. 'The Flying Scotsman' faced Cross in the quarter-finals and beat him 10-5.
