Raymond van Barneveld does not rule out that he would retire after the upcoming PDC World Darts Championship, if he wins his sixth world title on New Year's Eve.

The 51-year-old Dutchman in November and said the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship would be his last official tournament. This means Van Barneveld has two more attempts to secure his coveted sixth world title. If Barney succeeds at his upcoming attempt, an earlier retirement is possible, he told in an interview. ''My feeling says to stop immediately. Retiring at a high point is the best possible thing'', said Van Barneveld when he was asked if he would retire if he wins the upcoming World Championship. However, Van Barneveld refuses to make a final decision about this yet. The five-time World Champion realizes that such a decision would not be welcomed by the PDC. ''Actually it would be not fair to make a decision like that'', the Den Haag-based thrower admitted. ''They have given me wildcards for the Premier League Darts in the last few years, while other people said I didn't deserve them. The PDC, and also Sky Sports, backed me. If I then become World Champion, I can not simply say 'go away'.'' ''If I manage to win the World Championship, I could choose to only play the Premier League Darts and some World Series events in 2019. Then it would be enough for me, quitting at the highest point is always a dream.''
