The 2017 German Darts Grand Prix got underway in Mannheim as Tony Martinez, Jamie Caven, Jan Dekker and Jermaine Wattimena booked victories.
The opening game of the tournament saw Paul Rowley and Belgian debutant Tony Martinez clash. Martinez, helped by strong finishes of 80 and 96, made his debut a success as he triumphed 6-3 with an average of 93.04.
Max Hopp failed to delight the home crowd with a victory as he fell to Jamie Caven 6-4. The German youngster managed to break throw in the fifth leg to take a 3-2 lead, but a terrific 136-checkout under pressure from 'Jabba' levelled the scoreline and helped Caven on his way to the second round.
Jan Dekker became the third player through with a solid 6-3 win over Mickey Mansell. 'Double Dekker' cruised into a 3-0 lead and maintained an advantage throughout the match, which saw him hit two 180's and a high checkout of 100.
The next match saw one of Dekker's countrymen join him in round two, albeit in a Dutch encounter. Jermaine Wattimena got the better of Michael Plooy 6-4.
