There have been plenty of top players dumped out of the UK Open this weekend. Gerwyn Price had to work hard to avoid being one of them.

16 of the world's top 20 have been knocked out in Minehead. Mensur Suljovic did not attend, while Price, Gary Anderson and Rob Cross remain. Many of the top names have suffered shock losses. After a 10-6 win over Dirk van Duijvenbode, the Welshman almost met the same fate against amateur sensation Paul Hogan. Perennial UK Open contender Hogan took the 2017 finalist all the way. But a 101.45 average, featuring 10 maximums and a 160 checkout, saw Price home.
"Paul went 4-1 up but I was playing really well and I just knew that if I kept it up then I’d be able to come back at him,” said Price.
"I needed a game like that to get me going and I knew that Paul would be a tough opponent so I’m pleased to get over the line."
The Iceman almost banked himself £35,000 in his last 16 game. Price threw eight perfect darts, but his attempt at perfection fell short at the final hurdle. It had no affect on the outcome, with the Markham man holding off his amateur opponent. After that tough test, the Premier League star holds no fear of quarter-final opponent Corey Cadby, or any of his Minehead rivals.
"It pushed me hard but thankfully I had a little bit more in the tank. Hopefully I can back it up tomorrow," he added.
