Newton plays without expectations at BDO England Open: 'It's like starting again'

Don’t get me wrong, I’m trying to win every event I play in, but for me its just been like starting again really. There is a bit of a change and no pressure to win, just enjoy the game again.'' The Fleetwood Ace will focus on keep playing matches in the next few months, as the three-time World Championship quarter-finalists will try to win his Tour Card back in January 2019. Newton is convinced that he can approach his old form again. ''Reaching the last 16 at the Welsh Open was a good run. Chris Landman beat me in a great standard game, so I had no complains. I would have liked to have gone further, but I was happy with my game. Obviously winning builds confidence, so it was a good day.'' ''I believe I can get back to my better days. At the minute I'm playing good darts, I just need to be playing more. That is why I'm trying to play as many competitions as possible. I found it hard this year not having a Tour Card, not being away and playing as often as I'm used to. I have just got to take the time this year and build towards getting my Tour Card back next year.''
