Race to the PDC World Grand Prix 2018 hots up

Players who haven't confirmed their PDC World Grand Prix 2018 spot don't have long left to book a Dublin spot.

The double-in event marks the next opportunity to claim a PDC major. Defending champion Daryl Gurney will be there, as will the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Rob Cross. But for a few players, their chances of PDC World Grand Prix qualification are slipping away.
The top 16 in the PDC Order of Merit will be joined by the remaining top 16 on the ProTour Order of Merit. There are just five events to be played before the September 17 cut-off. First up is the German Darts Championship, followed by Players Championship 17 and 18. Then follows the Dutch Darts Championship, with the International Darts Open marking the last chance to earn some prize money.
As it stands, Adrian Lewis sits at 16th in the Order of Merit. That's bad news for the likes of Alan Norris and Kim Huybrechts, who don't have enough ProTour earnings to defend. Jelle Klaasen is £13,500 adrift in the Order of Merit, but a mere £250 off a ProTour spot. Josh Payne and Danny Noppert are a shade ahead of Klaasen, with £29,000 to defend.
The competition for ProTour places is hot, and the next few weeks will be pivotal for a chasing pack which includes Vincent van der Voort, Kyle Anderson and Jamie Lewis. But it's looking good for the likes of Max Hopp, Jeffrey de Zwaan and 2017 Grand Prix semi-finalist John Henderson.
