Ryan Searle claimed a stunning win over one of the main favourites for the title in Mensur Suljovic. Despite Mensur playing out of his skin to win the first set, Searle came back to see off the Austrian.

This continues the upturn in form for the player ranked 61 going into the World Championship and he spoke afterwards saying that he was over the moon after seeing off the former major winner. "I am over the moon," said Searle, who has qualified for both the Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals at the back end of 2018. "Mensur was awesome in the first set but I managed to find my game. I'm really happy to have done so well having only just squeaked into the tournament. "I've got a great record against Willie. We've played three times and I've won them all so I am hoping that continues." for more information about the PDC World Darts Championship, including schedules and the prize fund breakdown.
