Michael van Gerwen sent a strong message to Mervyn King after winning his fourth title of the season. The 29-year-old beat 'The King' in the semi-finals of the Pro Tour event in Wigan on Saturday.
The Dutchman said that King didn't even tried to beat Van Gerwen in their contest. The Norfolk ace produced a poor 84 average in this game, while 'Mighty Mike' averaged 81. The world number one won the match with 7-3 after winning the first five legs without reply.
''He was not even trying [to beat me]. A disgrace for darts'', Van Gerwen said when talking to Dan Dawson after his
final victory over Ian White.
''Things like this should not happen in darts. I always give hundred percent. No one can ever judge me on that. If people want to beat me, then they need to push me. For the rest, I don't care.''
Earlier this week, also James Wade noticed that players were giving up to quickly when they play against Van Gerwen. ''I still think some are petrified of playing him to be honest. I don't think the gap is anywhere near as big as what people make it out to be from certain players. Some players collapse and give in before a dart is thrown but there's others who'll play him just like they'd play anyone else'', the left-hander told Sporting Life.
