The world number one lost on the first night with . Raymond van Barneveld beat him on the second night. Van Gerwen faces 'Snakebite' and 'Barney' again this year during the Premier League Darts in Rotterdam. ''It's not possible to do it worse than last year, when I got beaten up twice'', Van Gerwen told , looking back on last year's results. ''I just need to win my matches. At the moment I don't play well enough in the Premier League. In patches 'it's okay', but it's not my own level. I don't know why, but that's part of the game. I need to step over it, back to the practice board to make some hours there.''
