Steve West has finally won a World Championship match! Simply the West has failed in his last 6 attempts (5 BDO and 1 PDC) But overcame Van de Pas at Ally Pally this year.
West started the strongest and finished the strongest, as he put the dissapointment of losing the 3rd set to the back of his mind, and wrap the match up in the 4th in his second whitewash set of the match.
SET 1 (Van de Pas 0-3 West)
West startedthe strongest of the two men, taking the set to nil against the throw. A 14 darter to open the match, including a 100 out shot was cked up with a 15 darter on throw. The second leg also brining he first maximum of the match. Benito really struggled in this one, West taking the final leg of the set in 18 darts. Missing 4 darts at a double yet still leaving Van de Pas with 125 remianing.
SET 2 (Van de Pas 2-3 West)
West again continued to score well in this one. Benito would break to take the 1st leg, but was unable to back that up and soon trailed 2-1. Struggling for some scoring power Benito even attempted a blind 180 in the second leg, Shades of Lewis vs Manley.
Van de Pas managed to get himself back level in the set at 2-2. A 122 out shot on the Bull keeping him in the match. But he failed to capitalise on misses from west in the decider. Only getting 1 dart at a double from 49 which he missed. West returned to take the set.
SET 3 (Van de Pas 3-2 West)
A visibly more aggressive Benito returned to the stage in set 3. This one remaining on throw all the way. The set ignited in the pair both hitting a maximum in leg 4, West having the honours of hittng the double.
West could have won the match in the final leg, leaving himself on just 40. Benito stepped up to take out a 124 on the bull to steal the set and keep himself in the match. throwback to Wests 1st round encounter againt Mervyn King last year.
SET 4 (Van de Pas 0-3 West)
West put the dissapointment of the final leg in set 3 behind him to win 3 straight legs. Clinching the match in superb fashion with a 141 out.
West will now face the winner of Joe Cullen vs Jermaine Wattimena

- Many fans had a sour taste in their mouth by the end of this match. Mike was cruising to victory, playing beautiful darts, when the whistling started in earnest, particularly on his doubles. You could see in Mike's face that it was really affecting his concentration. The referee should have asked for order, just to show that the whistling is unacceptable, and Luke Littler could also have done his part to quieten down the crowd instead of "taking full advantage.:" I put that down to his age though. He needs some good advice on this from his management team and/or more seasoned players. It's got to be about who's best on the night, not who is being harassed by the crowd. Luke Littler played well to get back into the game and win, but it was a hollow victory. If he goes on to win the tournament, that triumph too will be tainted because of this match.
