Gian van Veen and Jurjen van der Velde have made history by qualifying for the final of the PDC World Youth Championship 2024. It is the first time there will be an all-Dutch final at this tournament and it will also be the first time a Dutchman takes the PDC World Youth title.
Over the years, several Dutchmen have made it to the final of the PDC World Youth Championship, but each time it went wrong in the final. Michael van Gerwen (2011 and 2012) lost the final twice, while Berry van Peer (2016) and Gian van Veen (2023) also just missed out on the youth world title.
So a year after losing against Luke Littler in the final, Van Veen gets another chance to crown himself youth world champion. After getting through the group phase, 'GVV The Giant' won over Laszlo Ancsin (6-1), Marvin van Velzen (6-2), Nathan Rafferty (6-4) and Dylan Slevin (6-2) for a spot in the final. Slevin had dealt with favorite Wessel Nijman (6-5) a round earlier.
Van der Velde recorded victories over Jarno Bottenberg (6-4), Roy Rietbergen (6-4), Adam Gawlas (6-5) and Keane Barry (6-4) during the knockout phase of the PDC World Youth Championship.
The final of the PDC World Youth Championship 2024 will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24, between the semi-final and final of the Players Championship Finals in Minehead. Both Dutch finalists are sure of participation in the Grand Slam of Darts in 2025 due to their final spot. If Van der Velde becomes youth world champion, he will also qualify for the World Darts Championship. Van Veen has already secured participation in the tournament in Ally Pally through the regular PDC Tour.
