Gary Anderson will return to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool for the 2023
World Matchplay with a tough opening night encounter with Dave Chisnall. After a self-admitted quite couple of years, the Flying Scotsman is keen to continue his recent resurgence.
"I've been practicing well. Since the World Cup I've only had a couple days on the board but it's been going alright," says Anderson, who enters the World Matchplay as an unseeded player, in an interview with Dan Dawson for The Darts Show podcast.
"The last 3 years have been quite quiet for me. I just didn't want to do it. But after the Worlds I started practicing with Ryan Searle twice a week and really enjoyed it," he continues, referencing the resurgence he has seen in the early part of 2023. "He's been coming to mine, I've had to go to him and if you can get me out the house that's the hard bit."
"I've enjoyed it. I'm quite happy just doing what I'm doing," Anderson continues. "If something says I can't do it, that I'm done, I'm going to make a point to prove them wrong. That's what gives me an extra boost."
A winner of the event in 2017, Anderson has had a self admitted up and down relationship with the event over the years. "I think because being in Blackpool it's so busy and you can't go anywhere without getting stopped," he explains. "But the last few years we've stayed outside Blackpool, somewhere quiet and it's been great."
