Nathan Aspinall once again was one of the success stories in this year's 2020 PDC World Championship as his rags to riches story continues up the PDC Rankings.
Unfortunately for Aspinall though
he lost out to Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals of the showpiece event and admitted in an interview afterwards himself that the pressure did affect him when he said it wouldn't.
Despite his disappointment though, he added that he is 'proud' of what he has achieved this year and that he is hoping now that a Premier League spot beckons.
"Michael didn't play well, I didn't play well. I was really up for the game in the practice room but it's a massive step up for me. I'm disappointed with how I played, it's all on the day and today wasn't my day," said Aspinall to Dan Dawson after his defeat.
"I am still proud with myself with what I've achieved this year. Back-to-back semi-finals, UK Open win, US Darts Masters so I've had a great year. I'm up to World Number Eight, I'm disappointed but also happy in the same way."
"As soon as I walked out I knew I was in the semi-finals of the World Championship playing Michael van Gerwen and it did affect me, it's something I need to learn to control. He was there for the taking and I didn't take my opportunities and he won."
"I'm hoping that Uncle Baz is going to put me in that Premier League, if he does that'll be a dream come true. Big target for me is to get a European Tour under my belt, I've got nothing to defend next year up until the World Championship so big push to the top four."
