Aspinall on toned down Premier League after Van Gerwen draw: "Darts is all about adrenaline and it just didn't feel right"

Nathan Aspinall produced a brilliant display once again but only came out with a draw against Michael van Gerwen who himself missed a match dart en route.

Aspinall averaged 105.38 but has concluded a good start to his second season in the Premier League and despite playing well, 'The Asp' didn't have that mindset when he got off stage.

"I've just been saying then I don't think I played as well as I've played all work. It sounds mental and I think that is the weird thing with darts. I knew I played ok but I thought it was probably one of me worst games of the week which is mental really because stats show differently," said Aspinall post match.

"Going into that game, I would have took a point. For me, he's the best player in my era and he's still the best player in darts so any point you take off Michael is brilliant."

Due to the passing of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the night was toned down with callers not doing their usual 180 calls and the dancers and pyro not present and Aspinall spoke about the difficulty of that.

"We were told to tone it down, we've got the bands on and obviously the callers can't give their normal shout. Darts is all about adrenaline and it just didn't feel right tonight."

"It was tough especially against a player like Michael."
