Nathan Aspinall is the first victor in the 2021 Premier League Darts after seeing off Glen Durrant in a 7-3 victory in a measure of revenge from last year's final defeat to the now reigning champion.
Aspinall was solid in victory over Durrant who still looked out of sorts at times. This featured a 98 average, five 180's and a high checkout of 124 from 'The Asp' as he adds the first points to his tally.
Aspinall missed double 16 for a 108 finish to begin the tie but pinned double eight to draw first blood and hold his throw.
From first blood to a first 180 and a first ton plus checkout, it was a 124 checkout for Aspinall and a break as he headed 2-0 up.
A 135 set up shot from Duzza left himself 69 as he looked to fire himself up and break back. But he missed a dart at double 16 only to return when Aspinall missed bull for a 72 checkout.
A double eight shot was pinned by Durrant to make it 2-1 from there. Aspinall was back to extend his lead with Durrant missing double 20 from a 74 checkout.
Aspinall missed bull for a 122 checkout but was back with Durrant's wayward darts not allowing a shot at 104 and it was soon 4-1.
Durrant kicked into life though with a 180 but Aspinall also pinned a maximum. The latter left 41 after nine but didn't get a go with Durrant pinning an 86 checkout to make it 4-2.
It was more promising for the reigning champion but he missed the bull for a 76 checkout and Aspinall went to the brink of at least a point at 5-2 up.
A 180 saw him take it to Durrant's throw and a duo of double 18's saw him pin a 92 checkout to assure himself with a break.
A 90 checkout saw a break back though immediately for Durrant as he looked for a late burst for a point. But it proved in vein as Aspinall hit back with a 41 checkout to claim the win.
