From Thursday, June 27 to Sunday, June 30, the World Cup of Darts will take place in Frankfurt. Belgium starts the tournament as the fifth seed and takes on Singapore and Philippines in the group stage. The group winner will advance to the second round.
Dimitri Van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts will play for Belgium for the seventh year in a row. Especially Huybrechts' appearance was a question mark for a long time after he suffered a double collarbone fracture in a fight after the soccer match Antwerp-Union. So it became a race against time to get fit for the start of the World Cup of Darts, but Huybrechts is still ready for a thirteenth participation in this national tournament.
The World Cup of Darts is already alive and well among Belgian darters on the Pro Tour. "I know from our other Belgian players that we've got on the tour, they are very motivated to also perform for their country. They would also like to wear their national colours, I'll just do my best to make sure I'm in it and I'll just see who's going to be my partner," Van den Bergh said.
Number one
"There were years Kim was number one of Belgium and at certain point, it turned around and he was number two for Belgium. But it was always me and him. It's not only about being the number one in Belgium, it's about being number one in the world."
