Belgium will not win the
World Cup of Darts this year. In the second round, things went somewhat surprisingly wrong for Dimitri Van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts.
The Belgians started the tournament as fourth seed, but against Austria they lost 2-0 in the singles.
"What an anticlimax. Kim played a fantastic game, you could see that in his average (more than 108). Unfortunately for him, he found a great playing Mensur Suljovic who was just that little bit better," said Erik Clarys, co-commentator on the Belgian channel VTM 2.
A lot of pressure
Van den Bergh was then unable to rectify the situation against Rowby-John Rodriguez.
"Dimitri didn't give up at all today. Maybe it was the pressure, knowing that Kim made at least the quarter finals in his previous participations in the World Cup of Darts. He did not want to disappoint his compatriot. Also, he saw Kim play a great game that he still lost, that created even more pressure. The German public continued to support him throughout the game, yet he could not live up to expectations," Clarys concludes.
