Northern Ireland were in supreme form as they took apart Portugal with ease not conceding a leg in the process to stake their claim in the World Cup of Darts.
Brendan Dolan spoke alongside Daryl Gurney afterwards and said Portugal’s order would have made no difference as with their team being so strong, he knew either way they’d make it work.
“We’re absolutely delighted. The first round is so hard, there’s a lot of pressure, a lot of tension there. We’re trying to get off to a good start because we know when we start to play singles the two of us can produce our own goods and take the pressure off,” he said to Online Darts.
“Today Daryl was unreal against Jose. He just beat the best player on the floor and beat him with ease.”
“I felt I have the game to beat Jose and I was surprised he wasn’t first but it didn’t make a pile of difference as far as I was concerned. Knowing if I clicked it was an easy run and knowing if I didn’t click, Daryl would pick up the pieces anyway. For me the way it turned out and the way I played, it was the best thing that could ever happen. Pressure’s a different game and Daryl handled it no problem at all.”
