Jonny Clayton is through to a third career PDC major semi-final after defeating Dirk Van Duijvenbode 10-4 at the European Championship.
Both players were below their best but it is Clayton who is through to face the winner of Peter Wright and Steve West.
The opening foray of the tie went with throw before Van Duijvenbode hit double 20 to break and lead Clayton 2-1. Clayton broke back though immediately and despite an average of 82, he led 3-2 at the break holding the early impetus.
It continued to be close though with Clayton regaining the upper hand at 5-4 up and a break of throw saw him ahead once more with a cushion at the second interval.
It was four consecutive legs as Clayton continued to hold the advantage to head towards the finishing line at 8-4 up. He was soon one away though, would Van Duijvenbode mount a late comeback? He couldn’t as Clayton won through a 10-4 winner into his third major semi-final.
