Darts commentator and analyst,
Dan Dawson believes
Dirk van Duijvenbode is close to major breakthrough and is backing the Dutchman to claim his first tv title sooner rather than later.
"If you said who are the best players in the world right now, you'd have Price in there, you'd have Michael van Gerwen in there but I think you would have Dirk van Duijvenbode in there as well," Dawson tells the Love the Darts podcast. "He's genuinely up there. Consistently as well."
The Dutchman has already claimed success at two
Players Championship events in 2023 and despite going out in the last 16 of Saturday's Players Championship 9, van Duijvenbode posted two 111+ averages in consecutive whitewash wins over Josh Payne and Daniel Klose.
"We talk about Michael Smith being up and down and when he's up he's absolutely brilliant. Van Duijvenbode doesn't have many downs. His bad game is like a 96 and his good game is astonishing," Dawson explains. "I've thought he's the most exciting player in world darts for a while now."
"I just think he's brilliant. He's going to win more stuff," Dawson continues. "He's already got two titles this year on the Pro Tour. I think he's going to win stage titles. Whether it's a Euro Tour or one of the big ones, you do not want to get drawn against Dirk van Duijvenbode. There's a chance, even if you're van Gerwen or Price or whoever, that he just blows you away."
