Darts referee, Kirk Bevins who has previously appeared on Countdown and of course calling from the oche returned to TV this week as part of Eggheads.
The popular tea-time quiz show in the UK, it throws the top quiz players in the country to beat the best of the best.
His refereeing job was referred to by host Jeremy Vine. He said: “Kirk, you are a professional darts referee. That’s quite something, I always think there’s a lot of pressure on you guys.”
Before indeed putting him under that pressure. “So they throw treble 20, treble 17, double two and you can immediately say…," said Vine.
To which Bevins switched to calling mode with "115!" He also spoke about the stress of the job. “I enjoy darts, I’ve got the best seat in the house. There’s not really much stress. I just try not to make a mistake because everyone’s watching.”
He took on Barry 'The Brain' to sudden death after both got their opening questions correct and it was the referee who won through after a slip.
As a result, he competed in the final for the £24,000 prize and it was the 'Thrown Together' squad which included Bevins that prevailed.
