Dirk van Duijvenbode advanced to the quarterfinals of the Baltic Sea Darts Open in Kiel with a 6-3 victory over Michael Smith. In nine legs, he managed to throw seven 180s and averaged over 100.
Van Duijvenbode broke Smith already in the second leg with an 11-darter. Smith, who despite a wrist injury decided to travel to Kiel, came back to 2-2 with a 118 finish and a 14-darter.
He broken again in the sixth leg by Van Duijvenbode, who then made it 5-2 with a 13-darter. Smith recorded a 61 finish for 5-3, but then Van Duijvenbode sealed the match with a 14-darter.
In the last eight 'Aubergenius' will play Luke Humphries. He won in the third round against Dimitri van den Bergh. Both Humphries (6/25) and Van den Bergh (3/13) struggled on the doubles, but the scoring ability of 'Cool Hand Luke' was the deciding factor. Humphries prevailed 6-3.
