Gary Anderson is the latest big name to head out at the PDC
World Darts Championship with his earliest exit since 2010 coming at the hands of 'Hollywood'
Chris Dobey who will face either Rob Cross or Mervyn King in the Last 16.
This after coming from a set down in which Anderson averaged 115 but couldn't reproduce that as Dobey produced a 95 average, eight 180's and 39% on the outer ring. In the same quarter as Michael van Gerwen, a big name is gone.
Dobey started with a 180 but Anderson began on double 10 for an opening hold. He swept the set from there pinning 121 followed by 138 to leave 68 which he hit to go 1-0 up.
A 64 checkout saw Anderson level up in the second set. An 80 checkout was missed by Dobey and Anderson had a go hitting two double 20’s for a 2-1 lead.
Anderson missed a dart from 96 for the set and Dobey broke back to send it all the way. Two set darts went for Anderson and Dobey returned for double 16 to make it 1-1.
Anderson though was broken on double 15 by Dobey and he was suddenly throwing for a 2-1 sets lead. But a 180 and 177 saw Anderson suddently throwing himself.
Dobey hit 171 to leave 36 making Anderson take out 110 which he couldn’t and ‘Hollywood’ took it for 2-1. In the next set, he went one away from a 3-1 sets lead. He missed 160 for the set and Anderson could not hit 150 which allowed Dobey back for the set.
But he missed the opportunity and Anderson hit double 20 to send it the distance. Dobey though held to finally make it 3-1. A 48 checkout saw him break and he was two away.
A 91 checkout kept Anderson in it with a break back. He missed double 15 for a 150 and Dobey returned only to spurn two break shots. Anderson though busted 15 on 19 and Dobey came back again straight away for double 16. He was suddenly throwing for the match and a 64 checkout sealed the deal.
